Emily was an incredible support during the birth of my third baby. Her techniques for comfort during contractions were invaluable, especially since I hadn't planned to go without an epidural for so long. She had an amazing ability to anticipate my needs before I even realized them, which made the experience feel more manageable. She also helped me advocate for myself in the hospital, making my labor more empowering and positive. I only wish I hadn’t waited for my third birth to hire her! Truly such a great experience having her as part of my team.
I am so grateful to have had Emily as my doula. At our first meeting, she was very attentive in answering our questions and helping my husband and I talk through my desires for my birth. She was always accessible to answer questions throughout my pregnancy and provided a listening ear when I need to process the harder parts of being pregnant. When I went into labor, she was quickly responsive. She provided comfort to me while I labored and helped make me more comfortable. She was trustworthy and gentle in caring for me, and even my husband, throughout the labor process. Once my baby was delivered, she knew when to sit back and let my husband and I enjoy our moment, versus when to step in to help with lactation and remind us of our birth plan for us to communicate that to the nurses and doctors. About a month postpartum, she sat down with me to discuss how I felt like my birth went and ask me how I was doing. She was very intentional to make sure I was doing ok. I would recommend Emily to anyone looking for a doula. She is such a tender, kind hearted caregiver.
There are not enough words to explain how essential Emily was for my pregnancy and birth. Especially as a first time mom, I didn't know what labor and those first hours postpartum would be like. Everyone was amazed that I wasn't nervous for birth because I knew I had the best team, and Emily was a key part of that. Her calming voice and demeanor kept me grounded when the hospital staff was running around. Due to a breech baby, I had an emergency c section, and having her keep me calm, allowed my husband to focus on the care our baby received after delivery, before we got moved to a recovery room. She was a great support to my husband to help him advocate for my birth plan even amongst the chaos. She was incredibly helpful staying at the hospital as I entered postpartum to connect with my new baby boy. Of all the things you "need" for giving birth, Emily as your doula is probably one of the few things you do actually need.
